Michigan NOW Announces Endorsements for the November 6, 2012 General Election

The Michigan NOW Political Action Committee and the Michigan NOW State Coordinating Council announce 95 endorsements for the November 6, 2012 general election. These include 23 additional candidates since the August 7 primary and two changes from Support to Endorse in the House 68th and 69th District races.

See the media release for the complete list of endorsed or supported candidates.

Statement to potential 2012 candidates interested in a MI NOW endorsement:

Michigan NOW endorses or supports candidates based on the answers to candidate questionnaires submitted to us. Typically we do not endorse or support before the close of filing although there are some exceptions.

We share the list of endorsed or supported candidates with our members through our newsletter, list-serve, Facebook, and the general media.

If you want Michigan NOW’s endorsement or support, please fill out the appropriate questionnaire as soon as possible. (See buttons on the right side of page). Your questionnaire will be reviewed by the Michigan NOW PAC Board and a recommendation made to the Michigan NOW State Coordinating Council to either endorse, support, or not support your candidacy. Endorsed candidates are eligible for a Michigan NOW PAC contribution and/or volunteer help from a local chapter.

Questionnaires may be revised by September 1, 2012, for the November election depending on new issues developing. If you require any additional information, please email the PAC Administrator at: admin-pac@michnow.org

Political Action Committee:  Statement of Purpose

As an independent, non-partisan committee, Michigan NOW PAC recommends endorsement or support of candidates who take uncompromising stands on feminist issues — including both women and men of any political affiliation.

The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.

Electing feminists to all levels of public office is a crucial part of NOW's advocacy for women's rights. If you agree with us that electing strong feminists to office is the best way to move our country toward equality for all people, become a member of Michigan NOW today and donate generously to our PAC.

Only Michigan NOW members may donate to our PAC. Please join today so you can help transform Michigan politics by electing feminists to office!
